Babington House is a true country estate dating back nearly seven centuries. There are vestiges from nearly every era, from predominant Georgian architecture of the main house to the ornate moulded ceilings, and cornices of Queen Anne, and a stained window about the main stairway that dates from 1400’s. St. Margaret’s church is absolutely beautiful, it looks as much as it did when it was built in 1750. This can be where you take your wedding vows if you are planning a religious ceremony. But of course, there are rooms licensed for civil ceremonies inside the house if that is what you are after or perhaps a perfect English garden wedding. To ease any prenuptial jitters, a swim and sauna at the Cowshed Spa is the perfect balm. There are aroma rooms, as well as lakeside cabins for a massage to work the kinks out. And all your bridal entourage, the women in the family, and all your female guests can get their hair done at the spa or in the comfort of your own bridal room, so there is certainly no need to rush to town.

It is relatively easy to get to from the bustle of the city to Babington House. Only 12 miles from Bath, (an hour and 20 minute train from London Paddington station), 20 miles from Bristol Airport, (over a hundred from either Heathrow or Gatwick), or you can ask for the grid reference to land your helicopter, as a number of the Soho cognoscenti who regularly visit have been known to do.

Babington House is a members’ only place, but you will be happy to hear that they welcome weddings for non-members. There is a minimum spend of £30,000 for weddings, and 25,000 for winter weddings from January to March. They will also require 32rooms to be booked for one night which I can only see as ideal for all your guests. The only draw back I can think of is that they only host weddings between Monday and Thursday.
