Top Five Wedding Insurance Claims

After speaking to some of the top wedding insurance companies in the UK, we have now compiled a list of the five most common wedding insurance claims. This is something you should bear in mind what you compare wedding insurance policies. With so many different types of claims covered by wedding insurance policies, it is very easy to get overwhelmed so here are the ones that are most likely to come in useful.

Top Five Wedding Insurance Claims

1. Cancellation

This is clearly the main expense that any bride and groom will have to face if something goes wrong. Wedding cancellation refers to any costs that are involved if you are forced to cancel the wedding for reasons such as injury, illness, death or supplier failure (not if you change your mind!).

If the wedding is cancelled for a legitimate reason, you will be covered for the cost of the venue, the cost of suppliers, any deposits you have made and any other costs associated with the wedding. There will always be an upper limit, and it is this limit which often determines which policy you take out. So for a very expensive wedding it makes sense to get a more expensive policy that will cover you completely.

2. Problems with Suppliers

No matter how well prepared you are for the big day, things can sometimes go wrong that are not your fault. You will have to rely on the photographer, cake maker, caterer, driver and many other suppliers on your big day, and any one of these could fail you at the last moment. The fact that the event is on this list means it happens more than one would like to admit, and it is well worth taking out cover for this event alone.

3. Damage to Wedding Dress

The wedding dress is often chosen months in advance by the bride. Of course the focus of the wedding is often on the bride and her dress, so any damage that it sustains will need to be fixed quickly. This could incur last-minute costs, or it may be that the bride wants to get it repaired after the wedding. In any case, wedding attire is covered in all good policies up to a certain financial limit.

4. Photographs

Photographs are one of the most important things at the wedding, and one of the things that lead to the most anxiety. They are also, as their presence on this list shows, one of the things that can cause real problems. The failure of the photographer to turn up for any reason, or the failure to deliver good quality photographs, can lead to the need to make a claim. A insurance will often pay for the photos to be retaken, which can sometimes include re-setting the scene for the cutting of the cake so that you have a record of the moment.

5. Problems with the Venue

There are plenty of things that could go wrong with the wedding venue. It could go bankrupt, burn down or the owner might fall ill forcing the event to be cancelled. You might also decide that the service was not what was promised and enter into legal proceedings to get compensation. Wedding insurance policies cover for these eventualities should you be entitled to financial compensation of some sort following a problem with your wedding venue.
